Skipping Stone Pictures, Ltd. was founded by award-winning writer and producer Scott Sackett.
He began his career in public radio at the Western New York Public Broadcasting Association, now Buffalo Toronto Public Media, filling in as anchor of the nightly news and host of Jazz in the Nighttime on WEBR. He became the long-time host of the top-rated morning music program on WNED Classical, co-host and feature producer of the live NPR broadcast of the Buffalo Philharmonic and Chorus production of Handel’s Messiah, and a co-producer of the annual 13-week radio series Music from Chautauqua for Public Radio International. He later served as a local host of All Things Considered on WBFO and became the voice of the popular weekly choral music program Sacred Classics on WNED Classical. Among the features he has produced for Buffalo Toronto Public Media’s NPR station are an award-winning series on regional art programs for people from marginalized communities and The Faithkeepers, a series that uses religion and spirituality as lenses to profile diverse cultures and communities.
Scott Sackett’s collaborations with filmmakers Paul Lamont and Chris Bové include the PBS documentary Elbert Hubbard: An American Original (2008), the WNED/PBS War of 1812 film Glorious Battle (2011), and the national public television documentaries Lake of Betrayal (2017) and The Songpoet (2021).
Among his honors are a 2022 ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor-Virgil Thomson Broadcast Media Award for The Songpoet; 2021 Silver Telly Awards in the categories of documentary and biography for the Eric Andersen film, The Songpoet; a 2018 Silver Telly for the documentary Lake of Betrayal, a 2018 New York State Associated Press Association Best Radio Series about arts programs for marginalized communities, and a 2010 CINE Golden Eagle for Elbert Hubbard: An American Original.
In 2023, Scott Sackett joined the faculty of the Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University. He previously served as an adjunct instructor of communication studies, German, and Italian at SUNY Niagara and was awarded the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching.
